EA Reshapes Its Lineup Around Core Franchises and Fewer Big Bets

Electronic Arts laid out a major reshaping of its business on October 21, 2026, in a message to employees that it also published publicly. The company says it is concentrating its teams, technology and investment behind three priorities: deepening its core franchises, expanding its reach to new platforms and markets, and transforming its business with new ways for sports fans to engage.

On the shooter front, EA points to Battlefield 6 as a great success and says it will apply lessons from that launch and its live service to a broader shooter portfolio. Alongside future Battlefield titles, Respawn and DICE will collaborate on a future project, while Apex Legends will continue to receive heavy investment over the next few years, including brand new multiplayer gameplay modes and other experiences designed to expand its universe.

Action-adventure is being narrowed to fewer, larger bets. EA says it is continuing to deliver on Marvel's Iron Man and the next Star Wars Jedi game, and beyond those it will run fewer simultaneous large-scale projects so each one gets the company's full weight behind it. As part of that focus, EA says it will not move forward with the early-development Mass Effect project that a small BioWare team had been working on, and that it is closing the studio and its Edmonton workspace.

EA SPORTS, which the company describes as operating from a position of strength, remains fully committed to the FC franchise and the wider sports portfolio. Two new projects are in development and due to be revealed over the next few months: a social-first open-world American football experience called Project Gridiron, and a return for the fan-favorite boxing series Fight Night, now in pre-production with EA's simulation fighting team.

In lifestyle games, the focus is on the long-term potential of The Sims and skate. EA says it is prioritizing Project Evergreen for The Sims to give the team more time to reach its full vision, pausing development on Project Lotus to make that possible, while skate. will move forward with a more focused, smaller team on a clear roadmap. EA says it will support affected employees in exploring other opportunities within the company and will discuss the direction further at a Global Town Hall in November.
