Fortnite's Fortnitemares 2026 Turned October Into a Horror Crossover Month

Fortnite's Halloween season went all in on horror crossovers. In its October 1, 2026 announcement, Epic framed Fortnitemares 2026 as corruption spreading across Battle Royale, Horde Rush and Reload, with a cursed cast arriving all month from Five Nights at Freddy's, Hazbin Hotel, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Beetlejuice, Obsession and more.

The island itself changed for the occasion. Players could drop into Freaky Fields or the new Nightmare Neighborhood point of interest, where Freddy Krueger waits as a boss. Defeating him claims Freddy's Nightmare, which lets the holder teleport into range and slash opponents, while the new Bonerattler SMG reveals enemies and returning weapons like the Wood Stake Shotgun and Pumpkin Launcher round out the arsenal.

Matches also played differently thanks to cursed cartridge Overrides, which grant invisibility while sprinting, boost damage at low health, or conceal a whole squad as Halloween props. Five Nights at Freddy's animatronic bosses added another twist: take one down and you can possess it and terrorize the map yourself.

Beyond Battle Royale, the returning Horde Rush mode came back for the season, and on October 8 an updated Nitemare Island arrived in Reload alongside the Stranger Things and Squid Grounds maps. Cosmetics kept pace all month, with Five Nights at Freddy's outfits showing battle damage in the shop at launch and outfits from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Black Clover, Hollow Knight, 99 Nights in the Forest, Hazbin Hotel, The Purge, Obsession, Slender Man, Beetlejuice, Predator: Badlands and Universal Studios' Halloween Horror Nights following throughout October.
