Zenless Zone Zero Lets You Pilot Combat Mechs in Its Sky-Island Update

HoYoverse announced Zenless Zone Zero's Version 3.3 on October 9, 2026, and the update launched on October 21 across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PC, iOS and Android, with a simultaneous Steam release. The game is rated Teen by the ESRB and PEGI 12, and the new version pairs a sky-island story climax with a brand-new way to fight: piloting combat mechs.

The story pushes the conflict over the sky island of Roscaelifer to a new peak. Traffic to the whole island of Booastrum is locked down, and the only way back in runs through the occupied skyport of Quietude Isle. That forces Judge Phoenix and Commissioner Severian, two figures who do not naturally see eye to eye, to travel together and actually cooperate, while the Proxy touches down on the island alongside Lindverne and edges closer to the truth behind the three Sunbringers and the Karma Cores inside them.

Phoenix headlines the first half of the version as an S-Rank Fire Anomaly agent. Her Core Skill, Nirvana, sears enemies hit by an Anomaly so that later Anomaly damage against them can land as a critical hit, and even a fatal blow does not take her out: her Rebirth lets her revive on the spot at full health and keep fighting. She arrives with the S-Rank W-Engine Plume of Rebirth. The second half belongs to Severian, an S-Rank Wind Attack agent whose Core Skill, Endless Breeze, automatically dodges an incoming attack and turns that momentum into a counter, building Energy for heavier continuous slashes after a dodge or a specific skill, alongside the S-Rank W-Engine Incarcerating Grip. Reruns fill out both halves, with Velina and the W-Engine Joyau Dore returning first and Norma and Chief Sidekick returning second. Phoenix's two new outfits are sold as a bundle at a limited-time 30% discount, Severian's everyday uniform Solemnly Impeccable reaches the store with his second-half channel, and both agents get fresh avatars, dynamic wallpapers and trust events, plus a sidebar theme and pendant claimable through the New Eridu City Fund.

The mech combat is the version's signature addition. In the main story, Lindverne uses her Karma Core power, Genesis Reconstruction, to create combat mechs built by High Ambitions Corp., which Proxies then pilot to infiltrate enemy bases in disguise. The mechs swap freely between melee and ranged attacks, can fire an even stronger laser after an EX Special Attack or a dodge, and can use the environment, shooting explosives or throwing heavy objects to smash through combat and puzzles. HoYoverse says this gameplay will stay available in future versions. Around it sits a full event slate: Lumina Square businesses host the Night of Supernatural Tricks, the HIA Club opens the Spooky Funhouse Tales VR game with drivable Trickmobiles and rewards including an Angels of Delusion outfit and a new A-Rank W-Engine, and further events send players fixing haywire Bangboo, tracking down whoever attacked Crowe, and reassembling painting fragments lost at sea, with the familiar Area Patrol and Combat Simulation double-drop events returning. The permanent Enigma of the Labyrinth mode also gets a seasonal Spooky Trial, a three-round challenge from a self-styled Devilboo instructor where Candle Cores can be sold by comparing offers across friends' and Outpost group members' shops.

Quality-of-life changes round out the patch: Fairy now recommends team lineups, strategies and operational briefs matched to a player's existing roster, with one-click preset application, some agents get dedicated tutorial videos, certain permanent combat modes offer challenge tips during squad configuration, and Inter-Knot Reputation promotion benefits are shown more clearly with guidance based on promotion progress. Check-in events hand out 10 Encrypted Master Tapes and 10 Boopons in total. Starting October 21, players can also link their accounts to sync game activity to their Discord profile, and a Zenless Zone Zero and Honkai: Star Rail collaboration trailer is now live.
