Annapurna Interactive and developer Third Shift released Forever Ago on October 8, 2026, bringing a deliberately slow, story-led adventure to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The game follows Alfred, an older man who sets out on a journey north after a tragic turn in his life. Rather than building its drama around combat or large set pieces, it frames the trip as a search for redemption, with the road itself doing much of the emotional work.
Along the way, Alfred travels through forests, deserts and mountain country, stopping at places that carry memories for him. He photographs what he finds with a camera, examines objects that hint at the people who came before, and meets a cast of characters whose own stories cross paths with his.
That mix of travel, photography and conversation is the heart of the experience. It is a single-player adventure, and its pleasures are meant to come from slowing down, looking closely and listening, rather than from rushing toward the next objective.
Forever Ago is the debut title from Third Shift, a German studio focused on narrative games, and it continues Annapurna Interactive's run of publishing smaller, character-driven projects alongside larger releases.
