Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Year Two adds Duel Mode, Super Slot gadgets and Sega console racers

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has entered its second year, and the new season is built around giving players more ways to race their own way. Year Two launched on November 3 with new racers, vehicles and courses, plus a headline new mode and a fresh gadget system.

The biggest addition is Duel Mode, a one-on-one format that breaks away from the standard 12-player races. With only one opponent to track, races become a duel of distance management and item timing, and the developers say matches can unfold in entirely different ways as a result.

Gadgets get a shake-up too. Year Two introduces the Super Slot, a dedicated slot for one-slot Gadgets whose effects are enhanced when placed there, opening up new combinations for players experimenting with their own play style.

Then there is the nostalgia play: the Sega Consoles Pack, featuring three vehicles inspired by Sega's historic hardware — the Dreamcast, Genesis and Sega Saturn. The team translated each console's colors, shapes and button layouts into racing machines, recreating the Dreamcast's Visual Memory Unit from original reference data, and working hard on the Genesis Tower US so it would not obscure characters or break the game's front-and-rear combination mechanic. The pack is a bonus exclusive for the Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition and Season Pass Two, and the team confirms it really did start life as an April Fool's joke.

Prices have been cut permanently alongside the launch: the Standard Edition is now $39.99, with the Digital Deluxe Edition and Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition each at $59.99 on PlayStation Store.
