Fortnite's most wanted prize finally has a real number attached to it. Epic Games has published the official drop rate for Pirate Shop Access, the token from the Treasure Hunters mini-season that turns the Item Shop free for two weeks, after a week of guesses that ranged from one in 2,000 to one in 700,000. The official figure, shared by the Fortnite Status account on November 7, is one in 137,500 per chest.

What the token does

Pirate Shop Access is a Treasure Hunt reward that arrived with Fortnite Treasure Hunters, the One Piece mini-season that started on November 1 on the Crossbones Isle map. Finding it unlocks the Pirate Shop, a version of the Item Shop where everything that normally costs V-Bucks is free for 14 days once you activate it.

One find grants two activations: one that must be used in 2026, by December 15 at 7 PM ET, and a second that can be used in 2027, between January 1 and December 15. The 14-day clock only starts when you press Activate, so there is no reason to trigger it the moment you find it.

How to get it

There is no shop, quest, or purchase involved. The token drops at random from any chest opened in Battle Royale and Zero Build matches during Treasure Hunters. Epic says every player has the same chance from every chest, and there is no location or chest type that improves the odds. IGN reported that if one member of a squad finds it, the whole party receives it.

The official odds

Epic published the full Treasure Hunt table on November 7 after players pressed for the numbers under the #ReleaseTheOdds tag. These are the chances per chest opened in a normal match, and Epic says they have been constant since the season launched:

Pirate Shop Access: 1 in 137,500

Weekly Gold Outfit: 1 in 1,562,500

Weekly Vehicle and Decal: 1 in 7,813

Weekly Pickaxe and Back Bling: 1 in 568

That makes the Weekly Gold Outfit, not the token, the rarest prize in the pool. It also puts the viral one in 700,000 figure to rest: that number was never Epic's, and neither was the dataminer estimate of around one in 2,000 that circulated earlier in the week.

Treasure Hours

The one exception to the flat rates is Treasure Hours, limited windows where Epic boosts the odds on selected prizes. Pirate Shop Access has run at 1.5 times its normal rate during Treasure Hours, and at double the rate during an evening window on November 7. Outside those windows, the base rates apply all day.

What it does not cover, and the scam warning

The free window has limits. Battle Pass levels, bundles that cost real money, and gifting items to other players are all excluded, and only one free Sidekick can be claimed per activation.

Epic has also warned players about the other side of the hype: accounts supposedly holding the token have been listed for sale online, with some reportedly asking as much as $10,000. Fortnite Status has called those offers scams, and buying or selling accounts breaks Epic's terms of service and can lead to a permanent ban. There is no paid shortcut to the token.

Treasure Hunters runs until December 5, so the hunt has just under a month left. The 2026 activation window closes on December 15, a week after the season ends.
