Borderlands 4's Big September Drop Added a New Island, a New Hunter and a Free Weekend

OFFICIAL Written by GPN · Nov 1, 2026, 8:32 PM ET · Borderlands 4 · Deals & Drops

Borderlands 4's September 10 content drop was one of the biggest days in the game's post-launch life, stacking a new story expansion, a new playable Vault Hunter, a new Bounty Pack and a free update side by side. Story Pack 2: FL4K and the Last Resort takes players to Providence, a tropical island where luxury retreats sit beside wild jungle and a volcano, and where the Tediore corporation has arrived to seize the island's precious Ordonite resource.

The story pairs players with FL4K and their pet against a Tediore expeditionary force led by five elite managers serving the ruthless Lieutenant Harmony. The pack adds a full new map zone packed with story missions, side missions, activities and collectibles, along with eight story bosses and thirteen minibosses that can drop two new Pearlescent weapons, eighteen pieces of Legendary gear and six new Legendary Class Mods. Ziplines strung above the jungle canopy open up new ways to explore and gain the high ground in a fight, and a pile of cosmetics rounds out the package, from Vault Hunter heads and skins to weapon, vehicle and drone customisation.

Getting to Providence takes a little progress first. The content is recommended for Vault Hunters at level 13 or above, and players need to have finished the Fadefields mission A Lot to Process before they can answer the distress beacon near the Bones of Sanctuary in the Terminus Range. New characters can also be rolled to start directly at the Story Pack 2 content at level 13.

Bounty Pack 5: Amara and the Vile Shadows arrives alongside it with a very different flavour. Amara, attuned to Phase energies, traces a spreading corruption to one of the old laboratories of Vile Lictor, where dormant Order Synths wait. The repeatable mission sends players with Amara to track Phase disturbances through unstable rifts, facing a new boss and two new minibosses that can drop a fresh Pearlescent weapon and six pieces of Legendary loot. Finishing the mission adds a Vault Hunter Skin, a vehicle and an ECHO-4 Drone Skin, while the Vile Test Chamber offers a boss-rush endurance test against cloned minibosses, with the unique Test Zero waiting behind the first three encounters.

The other half of Bounty Pack 5 is Vault Card 5, a progression track that hands out 24 cosmetic items and four pieces of rerollable gear through normal play, including a Daedalus pistol, a Jakobs assault rifle, a Vladof submachine gun and an Order grenade launcher. Vault Card progress runs on experience earned from exploring, killing and questing, with Daily and Weekly Challenges adding extra loot and experience, and no time limits or expiring rewards.

The same announcement wrapped the drop in a free-to-play weekend and a first anniversary sale. The free weekend ran from September 10 to September 14 on Steam and PlayStation, with the Xbox window closing on September 13, and progress and loot carried over for anyone who bought the game afterwards. The anniversary sale cut 50 percent off the game and its editions on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam, with the offers ending September 23 on PlayStation and September 24 on Xbox and Steam.
