Derelikt brings PSOne-style sci-fi horror to PS5 on November 13

A sci-fi horror game built to look like a lost late-1990s title is coming to PlayStation 5. Derelikt launches on November 13, and its makers describe it as a deliberate homage to the PSOne era of sci-fi horror, right down to the look of a game found on a CD-R in a long-abandoned storage unit.

Players arrive as an outside contractor sent to the Von Neumann Outpost, a station grafted onto an anomalous asteroid discovered in Saturn's orbit, to find out what happened to Excavation Team Delta. What they find turns bad quickly: the halls are dark, systems are failing, and the survivors they meet do not all tell the same story. Trusting the people around you becomes as much a part of the horror as the creatures themselves.

The game mixes fast gunplay with resource management, exploration, dialogue and old-school puzzle solving. The outpost is stocked with traditional weapons, and players can also find more outlandish prototypes and alien weapons as they progress. More than a dozen characters each carry their own secrets and agendas, and the team is blunt about most of them: some are useful, some are dangerous, some are doomed, and most are all three.

Visually, Derelikt leans fully into its period inspiration, with hand-painted textures, vertex colour lighting and affine texture warping, alongside retro-style full-motion CGI cutscenes. The team says the goal was the most faithful homage to fifth-generation graphics available, while keeping modern game design underneath, including an option to toggle effects to taste. The game has been in development in some form since late 2021, and pre-orders are available now with a 10% discount ahead of release.
