November 1 is now officially Pikmin Day. Nintendo hosted a Pikmin Day Direct presentation over the past weekend, and Pikmin creator Shigeru Miyamoto opened it by explaining the date: November 1 was chosen as a tribute to the original three Red, Blue and Yellow Pikmin, with 11.1 resembling them standing in a line.

The showcase's main game news was a new look at Pikmin 4 - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 on November 12. In the enhanced version, players can give voice commands to rescue pup Oatchi using the Switch 2 system's built-in microphone, with nine different commands registered, and test their planning skills in the new Dandori Academy, with timed challenges and weekend exams that earn in-game medals.

A free demo was part of the announcement too, featuring the Sun-Speckled Terrace opening area from the main story plus two Dandori Academy stages, available on Nintendo eShop. Nintendo also showed a new Nintendo Treehouse: Plays video covering the new additions, including Dandori Academy gameplay.

Beyond the game, the Direct covered a winter update for the Pikmin Bloom smartphone app, adding a Secret Caves adventure where players send Pikmin underground to explore, battle creatures and collect treasures, with cave maps earned partly through postcards. Two episodes of Hello! Pikmin, a new ongoing series of short movies produced by Nintendo Pictures, are available now on the Nintendo Today! app and other Nintendo channels, and a Pikmin Ability Collection launched on Pikmin Day at Nintendo New York, Nintendo San Francisco and the Nintendo Store.
