OpenAI to acquire Pierre, maker of Code Storage and Codex's Trees and Diffs tools

OpenAI has announced it will acquire Pierre Computer Company, Inc., the company behind Code Storage and a family of open-source developer tools. If you have browsed files or reviewed a change in the Codex app, OpenAI says, you have already used Pierre's Trees and Diffs libraries.

Trees lets developers quickly navigate a project's files, while Diffs makes it easy to see what changed; its Edit mode lets a reviewer fix a line of code right where the problem is spotted, and Pierre recently released Highlights, a fast syntax highlighter that updates as a developer types or an agent streams code. Code Storage itself lets apps store code and track its history using Git.

OpenAI frames the deal as part of adapting Git workflows to an era where more coding happens in parallel, pointing to Pando, its in-house source control backend for engineers and agents, shared earlier in the week. Once the acquisition closes, the ambition is to make Codex the place where developers and agents take on their most ambitious projects, connecting shipped code with the decisions behind it.

Pierre's open-source projects will remain open-source, and Code Storage customers can continue using the service after closing while its features are brought into Codex. The closing is subject to customary conditions, including regulatory approvals, and until then the two companies remain separate and independent.
