Gears of War turns 20 today, and The Coalition is marking the anniversary inside Gears of War: E-Day. The original game launched on Xbox 360 on November 7, 2006, introducing Marcus Fenix, Dominic Santiago and a chainsaw on a gun. Two decades later, the series is celebrating with an in-game event, a free character and a second season built around the franchise's greatest hits.
Anniversary event
A two-week anniversary event is now live in E-Day, with limited-time modes and new rewards. In Versus, players can jump into Guardian, where only one leader makes it out alive. In Horde Siege, the For the Queen mode disables the supply cache, leaving squads to rely on their loadouts alone.
Free RAAM for every player
To mark the exact anniversary date, every Gears of War: E-Day player can claim RAAM as a free multiplayer character. Log in to claim him instantly.
Season 2 Legacy arrives December 1
The celebration continues on December 1 with Season 2, titled Legacy. The season brings back fan-favorite maps, modes and character skins from across the franchise's history, reimagined for E-Day. One of the first reveals is the Solemn Memories Dom skin, showing Dom in the suit from the famous photo of him and Maria from Gears of War 2.
Twenty years on, The Coalition says the franchise is defined as much by its community as by its games, from friendships formed in multiplayer lobbies to Horde nights that became a weekly tradition. The anniversary event is live now, and Season 2 follows on December 1.
