OpenAI has introduced GPT-6 Cyber, a model built for cybersecurity research that finds and fixes vulnerabilities while staying inside the boundaries researchers set. On ExploitGym, which tests whether a model can exploit a specified vulnerability, it scores 48.5%, up from 32.1% for GPT-5.6 Cyber — a 51% relative improvement.
The model also follows its brief more reliably. In alignment testing it avoided exploiting out-of-scope services in 99.93% of tests without its deployment prompt, and 100% with it. OpenAI now classifies the model as Critical in cybersecurity under its Preparedness Framework, up from High for GPT-5.6 Cyber.
The capabilities are already being used on real software. OpenAI's researchers used GPT-6 Cyber to develop working exploits for 948 Linux kernel vulnerabilities and to identify 81 previously unknown high-severity vulnerabilities in Firefox, with candidate patches. Mozilla has released fixes for many of the Firefox flaws. Security teams at Cisco, Calif and CodeRabbit are using it for vulnerability research and code review.
GPT-6 Cyber is initially available through the API and Codex to a select group of approved Daybreak Red customers, with access expanding to all Daybreak Red customers soon. OpenAI is also making GPT-5.6 Cyber available to all Daybreak Red customers, and expanding Daybreak Blue alpha access for GPT-6 Astra.
