The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is out now, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 — a ground-up rebuild of the 1998 Nintendo 64 classic.
An epic journey returns
Link's quest to stop Ganondorf takes him across Hyrule, through dungeons for weapons, and into puzzles solved with his fairy companion Navi — across two time periods, playing as both young Link and adult Link. Nintendo says newcomers need not have played the earlier games: this is a standalone adventure and a good entry point to the series.
Built from the ground up
The new version has completely overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, and reworked camera and movement controls. Players can re-challenge powerful enemies in the Hall of Fallen Foes and hunt for fairy thoughts scattered across Hyrule.
Passing time with a song
Music is central: Link plays the ocarina to change night into day and call his horse, Epona. The Switch 2's built-in microphone also lets players play the in-game ocarina by humming or playing their own instrument.
More with two free apps
ZELDA NOTES, a game-specific service in the Nintendo Switch App, offers daily accomplishments, location-finding challenges, music scores exchangeable for points, custom scores shareable by QR code, and an Ocarina of Time Quiz. The free Nintendo Today! app has collectible cards inspired by different Legend of Zelda games. The release lands in the series' 40th anniversary year.
